I am pleased to say that this year’s annual inter-varsity sporting event was a huge success! On behalf of the whole committee I’d like to thank all of our members who participated, especially our first years who really gave it their all this year!
Our Varsity event was hosted by the University of Aberdeen with Sports representative Angus MacVicar taking care of all of the organisation on behalf of Aberdeen University Law Society. The friendly competition was held at the Aberdeen Sports Village.
We were fortunate enough to have this highly anticipated event sponsored by The University of Law, who we would like to thank for showing continuous support for DULS and for the events we host. This year we managed to have one of the biggest numbers of student participants so far from the University of Dundee.
Varsity presents the perfect opportunity to make friends with people who share your interests, and to focus on team building and social skills outside of the legal setting. This year we saw friendships being built, as well as people coming out of their shell and leading/participating in teams effectively.
As well as bonding with fellow Dundee University students, this Varsity highlighted a close bond between our students and that of other universities.
With a very busy day ahead of us, DULS had to depart Dundee at 7:45am to travel to Aberdeen. Our sporting day commenced with games of football, rugby and hockey. After a short lunch break we moved on to play games of squash, netball, basketball and dodgeball. These activities were great fun for all participators and the friendly competition kept everybody on their toes!
After a long day of sports, our hosts at Aberdeen invited us to their sponsor pub, the Bobbin, for some food and drinks before our journey home. This gave the societies time to socialise and get to know one another. It also gave the committee members a chance to talk exchange ideas for their respective societies.
Being new to the committee this September, it was challenging organising varsity as this was my first event. However, thanks to the help of the rest of the committee and the participation of the DULS members, combined with the efforts of the Aberdeen University Law Society, the event was one of the most successful as of yet.
Once again, I’d like to issue a huge thanks from the DULS committee to all of our members for their constant support and participation in all of our events.
Lastly, a huge thank you to the University of Law for sponsoring Dundee University Law Society. Without their generosity, DULS would not be able to achieve the level of success it did.
