What an exciting start to the new semester it has been. On behalf of the committee I’d like to thank all our new and existing members for the continued support of all our events.
Semester one kicked off with DUSA the Union fresher’s fayre. This gave committee the perfect opportunity to meet enrolling law students during their first week in Dundee.
This was followed by our first social event of the year, our annual pub crawl. This was a fantastic opportunity for new students to get to know one another and current students to reunite following summer break. Following that, we held our meet the family events, where law families are assigned. This was again well attended by students. Integration of the years is such an important aspect of university. Creating bonds with colleagues allows for a greater support system within the law school.
Following reading week, we will be hosting a charity pub quiz with Dundee University Business Society for the “DUSA Rag” charity. This year’s chosen charity is Dundee International Women’s Centre. DIWC works to promote and create opportunities for women’s social, political and economic inclusion. The charity addresses the needs of all women, particularly those from black and minority ethnic communities.
We our happy to announce that our highly anticipated annual law ball will be held in Ardoe House Hotel and Spa, Aberdeen in February 2020. Our ball this year is proudly sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. We would like to thank them for their continued support so we can provide fantastic opportunities for our members.
With is being my second year on committee, transitioning from Careers Assistant to Vice President (Social) has been smooth. I have thoroughly enjoyed the responsibilities that come with the role. Despite the busier schedule, being on DULS has taught me how to manage my time well. I have also been given the opportunity to meet loads of new people, both within and out with the law school. I look forward to what the rest of the year will bring.
